DAILY – ENGLISH

Apart from Montessori English we also have allocated time for English Language development as explained below.

Musical time

Our group singing time, three times a week is where our teachers play musical instruments and sing songs with the children together. This is a time children enjoy the most. First, we teach the lyrics of the songs while showing illustrated picture cards. Gradually, the children learn the words and are able to sing by heart.

Songs are a really effective way to learn new words and improve pronunciation. Songs with actions are particularly good for very young children as they are able to join in even if they are not yet able to sing the song. The actions often demonstrate the meaning of the words.

Morning Circle Time

In the Montessori Classroom, the day begins with the morning circle. This is a time for the classroom community to come together and greet one another. It’s also a time where the teacher reviews concepts such as the calendar, time and weather; or introduce a new activity or group lesson. Often songs are sung, especially the monthly songs and poems, and poems are recited.

Circle time isn’t just for attendance. Sometimes, when the work cycle becomes disrupted, we gather the children to a circle to “re-center” ourselves. Circle time is a place to regroup and reconnect.

Children are yet to develop the social, emotional and communication skills that will help them negotiate relationships in the society.

It also helps children work on the five key skills without which Circle Time doesn’t work: thinking, listening, looking, speaking and concentrating.

The following are some of the basic rules, merits and social skills children acquire from Circle Time: Putting hands up to speak and not interrupting; Taking turns; Allowing children to ‘pass’ if they don’t want to speak; Valuing all contributions and not putting anyone down; Improved speaking and listening skills; Increased self-esteem; A sense of community; Improved emotional intelligence; Improved problem-solving skills; A sense of responsibility; Improved relationships between children, and between children and their teachers.

   Daily English

Everyday we work on English for half an hour. Many different activities and methods are used to make learning fun and interesting. We introduce flash cards; conduct role plays; story-telling; the 50 phrase challenge; playing interactive games; singing English songs; basic grammar; seasonal theme-related vocabulary building and so on. The children find these methods of learning fun and interactive. They often seen trying to apply their new-found knowledge in day-to-day conversation. Whatever the approach, the most important thing is to relax, have fun and make learning English an enjoyable experience for children and teachers alike

Story-telling

Children love books with bright colours and attractive illustrations. Our teachers at Frontier Global School make reading time fun and more attentive. Story-telling is an effective tool in learning and development in kids. According to recent research, story-telling for kids creates empathy in them, helps with their brain development and lays the groundwork for the development of social communication and interpersonal skills.
