Making coconut flavored rice.

Children first measured and washed the rice. Then they added water and an equal amount of coconut milk with dry spices such as cumin, cinnamon, cloves, fennel, whole garlic and pandan leaves. Finally, the flavorful aromatic rice was ready.

Preparation for cooking

Children were excited to see the lentil grains. They first observed the lentils. The children started helping to peel the onions and garlic. Frontier’s helped to cut and chop the onions for tempering. Fernando helped washing the lentil, which had to be washed and rinsed three times. After the first stage of preparation, we started heating the oil. We then tempered the onions and dry spices. Once the mixture started caramelizing, we added the lentils. We let it boil. Once the color of the lentils turned from orange to yellow, we added the remaining spices and coconut milk. Finally, the most popular “Sri Lankan PARRIPPU Curry” (Lentil curry) was ready!
